Cousins has floated on this boat before when trying out for the Olympic team in 2012, but he did not make it. This time he has some time and experience under his belt. One of the issues that Jerry Colangelo had with Cousins was his reputation of a bad attitude. As being part of the BBN I am a big fan of Cousins, and although his emotions may get the best of him at times, Cousins is often misunderstood from the folks outside of the BBN. However, Colangelo did address the Cousins situation and what he had to say was positive.
Has he grown up? That’s hard to believe, given his recent childish argument with Chris Paul.
On the other hand, he’s made clear that he really values the idea of playing for his country, and a front line of Cousins, Davis and Durant is potentially incredible, and unlike his previous stance, U.S. chief Jerry Colangelo is open to Cousins joining the team. We’re pretty sure he wouldn’t have said that without discussing it with Coach K first.
No one doubts his talent, but a Cousins meltdown could really cost the U.S. dearly.
